2010 Nightingale Gala - Another Great Success

The 2010 annual Nightingale Gala by all standards was once again a terrific success. In addition to showing our support for our nursing community, this years event raised nearly $35,000 for nursing scholarships, exceeding last years total and bringing our five year total scholarship awards to $175,000. "It was an excellent night," said Grace Bottomley, chairperson for this years event. "I think everyone really enjoyed themselves thanks to the wonderful support from the community, our members and the improvements we’ve been able to make to the event each year. Ursula Pari, as usual, did and outstanding job as our Master of Ceremonies and the music by the Court Jesters was absolutely fabulous. Great food, lively auctions, a Champagne Toast to nursing and great fellowship made for a truly remarkable and fun filled evening.”

“The turnout was great” according to Betty Vargas, President of the Medical Center Rotary Club the sponsor of the event. “Everything seemed much smoother this year thanks to our experience, our members and the dedicated volunteers who help us with the event.”

Thanks to the generous support of local sponsors and donors, plus the many individuals who attended our event we will be awarding approximately 40 nursing scholarships during the 2010-2011 school year.

Nine Local Nurses Receive Excellence In Nursing Awards

At our Gala, local nurses are selected and presented with the Nightingale Excellence In Nursing Award. The goals of this program are to focus public attention on the San Antonio nursing profession and recognize individual professional achievement for individuals who serve as role models for our future nurses.

The Nightingale Excellence In Nursing Award program is open to all providers of health care — medical practices, hospitals, home health care, health centers, schools, health departments, long-term care, nursing schools and agencies. This is a non-competitive award with recipients selected by the Med Center Rotary Club for their contribution to the community and the nursing profession. This year, nine individuals were chosen to receive this award and be recognized on stage at the 2010 Nightingale Gala.
